Paramore // Brick By Boring Brick
Macklemore is pro race equality, pro religious equality, pro gay rights, thinks the government doesn’t do enough to help minorities, is for gender equality, pro-choice I think? in one of his songs he calls out all the guys who “forget” to wear a condom and how it isn’t fair to then leave it up to…
Have you noticed that he’s the one who gets recognition, not actual LGBTQ+ people or black people who are doing the same thing that he is, and sharing their experiences along with that? Have you noticed that Macklemore is praised as some sort of hero while nobody notices artists who are actually in the marginalized groups that he claims to speak for?
Do you think that is a coincidence?
Macklemore sang with Mary Lambert a lesbian who I would say from my experience is as well known as he is. And it’s not just about LGBTQ+ it’s about everyone and everything, if there’s so rapper out there that’s just rapping about gay rights great but I’m not really that fussed about them if they are just covering one social issue and not mutiple. Macklemore focuses on all of them, got his fame and is now using that fame to call out all of the injustice happening to minorities. It’s so fucking stupid people are getting mad about that just because LGTQ+ artists can’t get famous. As long as there are famous people out there supporting these minorities I don’t really give a shit what they look like or what their sexuality is. Isn’t that the message we’re trying to spread? My favourite actress, a wonderful person, isn’t famous, at all, but do you see me complaining? No. Fame isn’t everything but if people get it and use it correctly and are good people then good for them. And yes, one of the main reasons he’s famous is probably because he’s male, white and straight but he’s acknowledged this and why it’s wrong but he is now using it to help minorities so in the future anyone, no matter who they are can get big if they want and if they’re good enough.
Oh, lord, you’re straight, aren’t you? Representation in the media is so important. I want the young LGBTQ+ kids and the young black kids to have someone fighting for them who is like them. Who can relate to their experience. Macklemore is just talking about things he doesn’t understand.
Do you really think that Mary Lambert is as famous as Macklemore? She’s overlooked because the straight white man made our movement palatable to the masses.
Macklemore does not speak for LGBTQ+ people, or for black people. He speaks over them.
It’s an injustice that people only pay attention to marginalized groups and our struggles when straight white cisgender men talk about it.
Read my fucking bio. I’m sick of listening to people like you who think everyone’s role models should be someone just like them. No fuck off. Your role model can be whoever the hell you want. Lupita Nyong’o is one of my biggest role models and she is nothing like me, she is the opposite of me. But it’s doesn’t mean I can’t look up to her because she’s a good person, with good morals and beliefs the same as mine. We supposed to teach children that they can look up to anyone they want and have role models as whoever they want as long as those people are good human beings who believe in equality for all.
Macklemore is speaking for not just the LGBTQ+ community but many other minorities who would other wise get ignored and looked over. It’s not called speaking over someone, it’s called getting attention to them. I really am sick of people like you, who just get pissed off because the person helping isn’t from their community, for Macklemore to identify with all the community’s he speaks for he would have to be a black, white, bi, gay, trans, female, man, Muslim, Christian, every religion you can think of and a bullied teenage, adult, which I think is probably impossible. Start looking at all communities that need help and not just the one your apart of and you’ll realise that one person can help all of them with their words, but can not physically look like all of them. The way a person looks does not matter, it’s the way they think, what they believe and what they say to influence everyone.
